Technical and Training Facilities
The L V Prasad Eye Institute is a tertiary eye care center, which serves every major area of eye health. At LVPEI a trainee can acquire the widest kind of experience in eye health, eye surgical procedures, technical training, rehabilitation and low vision program and other ancillary activities.
The Institute has an excellent infrastructure with 45 examination rooms, nine dedicated operating rooms, and supporting diagnostic and therapeutic services. It also has several specialized centers for different facets of eye care. This includes the LVP-Zeiss International Academy for Advanced Ophthalmic Education, which is a state-of-the-art center for diagnostic procedures using computerized imaging systems.
We have cutting edge equipment for eye examinations, diagnostics, laser treatment, surgery, contact lens care, as well as clinical research. The Institute has dedicated laboratories for microbiology, molecular genetics, pathology, and serology, and a surgical wet laboratory.
There is a dedicated center for pediatric eye care - the Jasti V Ramanamma Children's Eye Care Centre.
Our Vision Rehabilitation Centres are model centers for rehabilitation of people with low vision across the globe.
LVPEI has its own eye bank - the Ramayamma International Eye Bank where students receive training as eye bank technicians or in eye bank management.
Community eye care and public health are an integral part of LVPEI's focus. The International Centre for Advancement of Eye Care (ICARE) at our Kismatpur campus provides community eye care for underserved urban areas, while functioning as a nodal center for dispensing eye care through a number of rural eye care centers across Andhra Pradesh.
The practical training available at these centers forms a valuable resource for trainees. They can benefit from our rotation system, which allows them to work for varying periods of time, either independently or under a supervisor, depending on the nature of the course.
All these opportunities combine to give fellows and trainees at our Institute excellent hands-on experience and the confidence that comes with such experience to mould them into world class professionals.
Food and Accommodation
Fellows are provided rent-free shared bachelor's accommodation in the campus hostel during the training period. Ophthalmology fellows are housed at the main LVPEI campus, while all other trainees and fellows are housed at the Kismatpur campus. During rotation periods accommodation is provided at the rural eye care centers.
Cafeteria services (vegetarian) are available within the campus at LVPEI and at the rural centers through the week.
