Long Term Fellowship in Glaucoma
The goal is to target the Ophthalmologists who have recently completed residency through intensive training to impart skills in the recent advances in the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma. Understanding research methodology and critical appraisal of published literature as well as carrying out a prospective study are integral to the fellowship.
Application Procedure: Applications must be accompanied by a Curriculum Vitae and testimonials from two referees.
Duration: 24 months
Session commences: In January and July each year.
Places available: One in each session.
Qualifications: MS / MD / DNB (Ophthalmology)
Selection: Through a written test and interview in November and May.

Curriculum
Clinical: The Fellow will be trained in the use of applanation tonometry, gonioscopy, slit-lamp biomicroscopy, indirect ophthalmoscopy and stereoscopic disc evaluation (78D lens) automated perimetry.
Diagnostics: The Fellow will be trained in the use of automated perimetry, short-Wave automated perimetry, frequency doubling perimetry, stereoscopic disc photography, scanning laser ophthalmoscopy (HRT), nerve fibre layer polarimetry (GDx), optical coherence tomography (OCT) and ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM).
Training in the use of Laser equipment: Nd-YAG iridotomy, Argon laser trabeculoplasty, suturolysis, and gonioplasty, Transcleral cyclophotocoagulation
Microsurgical techniques
Assisting all glaucoma surgeries
Surgery for congenital glaucoma
Trabeculectomy with or without mitomycin C
Trabeculectomy with ECCE or Phaco with PC IOL
Glaucoma implant surgeries
Independent work
Trabeculectomy with or without mitomycin C
Trabeculectomy with ECCE or Phaco with PC IOL
Research training:Each long-term fellow is expected to participate in at least one research project. The course also includes hands on clinical epidemiology training.
