Hands-On Training Program In Visual Electrophysiology
Need for Training in Visual Electrophysiology
Visual electrophysiology is a powerful tool to assess the function of various components of the visual pathway system. There are very few well trained visual electro physiologists in India, so the technique has remained confined to a handful of centres/individuals in the country. In order to make the knowledge widespread and improve the optimal utilization of this technology proper training is needed.
Since there is no program in India that provides systematic training in this field, L V Prasad Eye Institute has made an effort to fill this gap. We have well trained and experienced faculty and a large patient base with diverse disorders that can provide candidates a unique opportunity for hands-on training.
The course will include hands-on training and didactic lectures in these areas of visual electrophysiology:
- Methodology and recording protocols
- Interpretation of reports
- Recognition and Management of artifacts
- Common clinical conditions
The techniques covered will include Flash ERG, Pattern ERG, Pattern VEP, Flash VEP, EOG, and basics of multifocal ERG.
At the end of the course the candidates are expected to have acquired sufficient expertise to conduct basic electrophysiology recordings and provide valid interpretations. They would also have gained a basic knowledge of how to approach diagnostic testing for the common conditions referred to the visual electrophysiology laboratory.
This is a one-month course for ophthalmologists and optometrists who are eager to learn the basics of visual electrophysiology.
Who can Apply
Only sponsored candidates - who are perceived to be suitably placed in conditions where electrophysiology services are needed and can be set up or where they are already available.
